American Airlines Cargo recently organized a second shipment of humanitarian aid from Miami, Florida, to Esmeraldas to assist thousands of victims affected by the earthquake of April 2016 and the contiguous earthquakes.
American Airlines answered the request made by the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works as well as the initiative led by Assemblywoman of the United States and Canada - Karyna Sánchez - who organized the collection of 1,908 kilos of donations, including clothing and shoes for adults and children, diapers and baby food, school supplies, pet food, wheelchairs, crutches and sewing material.
The shipment landed at José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport in Guayaquil and will be transferred to the coastal town of Esmeraldas to be distributed among the families affected who are still in need of support.
Relief supplies are a continuing need for many disaster areas around the world and American Airlines remains committed to helping those in Ecuador. In May 2016, together with Fundación Jonathan, American Airlines Cargo delivered to the town of San José de Chamanga, Esmeraldas, 1,400 toiletry kits as well as 40 tons of medicine, clothing, toys, water and food.
